After years of reporting on families being forced out of their homes by thugs, I am happy to report some positive news about this important government organisation. Credit must be given where it is due. A great many thanks to NHC MD, Kenneth Cooke for being very supportive and to Lae Regional Manager for acknowledging and exposing the problems in Lae. Credit also goes to the Housing Minister, John Kaupa.
Five people in Lae were given their titles by the National Housing Corporation today.
Those who were presented the titles today, bought the properties through NHC’s Give away schemes.
Some of these individuals have waited more than 20 years to be given their land titles after buying their properties from the NHC.
Among them was Margaret Wera, a widow who came to receive the title on behalf of her late husband Joe Wera.
Her husband’s family, bought the place and have been waiting for the title since 1993.
NHC manager in Lae, Andrew Augwi said the process has been slow, and some families are still waiting for their titles.
In today’s batch, there included four families from Lae, and two from Bulolo.
