The Civil Aviation Minister has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to introduce cuts to the cost of air travel to rural areas.
Davis Steven, says a new policy being developed will l also take into account the cost of medical evacuations and the transportation of health workers.

It comes as the Transport and Civil aviation departments work towards reopening rural airstrips – some of which have been closed for more 20 years.
“This is work that is approaching its final stages now.”
Yesterday Davis Stevens was in Tsewi, in the Menyamya District of Morobe, where the airstrip has been reopened. It was built in 1984 but the airlines stopped flying
The high costs are also causing the exit of government workers. For them, it is too expensive and too difficult because a return ticket for one person is the equivalent of a fortnight’s pay.
